I need to know, is it possible have a person banned from coming out in public on the grounds that they are so idiotic that it make you feel unconfortable? Well Laura Mallory a mother from suburban Atlanta make me feel this way. She has been crusadeing since August of 2005 to have the Harry Potter series removed from the shelves of her kids local schools beacuase as she wrote that she was objecting to the books because of their "evil themes, witchcraft, demonic activity, murder, evil blood sacrifice, spells and teaching children all of this." and has also stated that allowing these books creates a eviroment that causes school shootings. She also has stated "I think the anti-Christian bias — it's just got to stop," "And if we don't say something, we'll just keep getting pushed out of the schools. And I pay taxes, too, and I think that gives me a voice to speak out about this." She has fought and lost twice already and is ready for a third appeal.
Now to why I think she is an idiot, for one she has admits that she hasn't even read one of the Harry Potter books, and most of her research was done online. Ok if you have ever taken debate in high school, or written a report you had to turn in a list of reference materials that you used for your basis for the report. Now I think that if your gonna go out and argue a point that a book is evil then you better have damn well read the book and reference excerpts from the book that you read not from secondary sources.
Two she relates Harry Potter to the real religion of Witchcraft/Wicca. Harry Potters only similarity to real Witchcraft is the fact that they call themelves witches and carry wands. There is not one scene or chapter in Harry Potter in which they practice anything similar to modern Witchcraft.
Three she thinks that this is all a anti-christian issue, look i could understand this with more people with different religions attending public school, and the removal of the pledge and prayer in school that it might look that way, but to think the fact that the courts wont remove Harry Potter on the shelves because of a anti-christian movment is just silly. Cause removing Harry Potter from the shelves would be the anti-christian equivlent to remove any book that mentions God. Harry Potter is not a religious text that dictates the teachings and practices of Wicca.. Harry potter is fantasy plain and simple and thats why they wont remove it because its make-believe.
If the bias is anywhere it is an anti-Wicca one. it is a reconized religion and her she is useing its name as a tool to ban kids books and declareing it evil. Why must people like her always make things they dont understand into something evil and completly twist it into something its not. I could go one about what Wicca is but i dont have time to write the pages on it. I suggest your go to your local book store and grab some books on the subject Such as books by the author Chris Penczak especially Inner Temple Of Witchcraft: Magick, Meditation and Psychic Development. It has lot of detail of the basis, history, meaning, and history of witchcraft.
I've been reading about Laura Mallory's case for a while now and it just seems to bother me that the courts get to waste all this time with a subject that has a smiple solution. Teach your kids to the best of your abillity your beliefs and hope they follow them and if need be enforce rules. If you dont want your kids reading the book, fine don't let them read it. But do not go and demand that your decision be the one of all the other parents by taking away the choice all together. Now that should be a crime if oyu ask me. Look for more blogs on this subject I just cant get it all out cause it makes my brain hurt so bad.
